Love, Sorrow and Passion: Rubens Women

13 December, 2023 @ 19:30 pm - 20:30 pm

13th December 2023, 19:30 – 20:30

Online lecture via Zoom (recording available for 1 week).

Peter Paul Rubens is known for his voluptuous women radiating sensuality but the women in his life were more than muses of sexual desire. Both in his painting as in his personal life women played an extremely important role as they shaped and directed the course of his art.

This talk will review some of the works in the current exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery which runs until 28 January 2024 and also give additional information on the artist, his generation, the city of Antwerp and the times in which these works were made.

A recording will be made available for one week to those who have booked event tickets.

SPEAKER: Mariska Beekenkamp-Wladimiroff

Mariska obtained an MA in Dutch Baroque art from the Courtauld Institute of Art and went on to set up Art Historical London offering art historical lectures, courses, tours, travel and events from London. Ruth Munby who has organised this event has attended Mariska’s excellent lectures.
