Online Talk/Demonstration by Michael Harding on painting materials and their uses

10 March, 2023 @ 19:00 pm - 20:00 pm

10th March 2023

Michael Harding is a U.K. artist who wanted to make top quality paints like the old masters once did.

With over 30 years of experience in the oil paint market, Michael Harding has proved himself to be a trusted colourman with an extensive knowledge of pigments and how to bring out their particular characteristics. His more recent, long planned, move into watercolour has been widely welcomed.

Michael’s talk on painting materials and their uses will aim to cover:

  • the qualities and uses of different colours/pigments including the “best” whites to use in different circumstances
  • pros and cons of water mixable oil paints
  • pros and cons of different mediums (both for diluting oils and for cleaning brushes)
  • the qualities and different uses of varnishes (including when to use and when not to use them)

Michael Harding paints are manufactured in the U.K and sold to over 27 countries though out the world. Artists such as David Hockney, Howard Hodgkin and Sean Scully all use these paints.

LSAG member, Richard Davidson, who helped organise this event says

“I have used Michael Harding paints for over 25 years and have become such an admirer of their quality that a few years ago I did a painting of some of them. Although initially more expensive than some others, the high pigment content (without addition of any fillers, extenders, or driers) means they represent good value as well as giving them a particular vibrancy of colour.”

COST: NO CHARGE. Michael Harding has kindly said he won’t charge for his talk.
