Additional Information about Brompton Cemetery

Brompton cemetery was consecrated in 1840 and is one of Britain’s oldest and most distinguished garden cemeteries. Emmeline Pankhurst and Wisden of Cricket fame are buried there. The gardens are a haven for wildlife, there are several beehives and at least 50 different species of trees.

This is a magical atmospheric place to paint and sketch with stunning Victorian and other varied statuary. There is a monument with a wolf on the tombstone of Chief Long Wolf who originally came to England with Buffalo Bill’s show to celebrate Queen Victoria’s 50 year reign.

There is an information centre near the cafe with a film showing the more hidden away parts of the grounds.

NOTE – The Royal Parks who maintain the place have some requirements such as not setting up on the main road that runs through the grounds.
