Discover the power of colour with Jane de Sausmarez
The Law Society Art Group is delighted to welcome renowned author, lecturer, and colour specialist Jane de Sausmarez for an inspiring talk on the art and science of colour.
Jane is one of the UK’s celebrated authorities on colour theory. She has taught at the City & Guilds of London Art School and the Open College of the Arts, and her book Basic Colour: A Practical Handbook is recognised as an essential guide for artists and designers worldwide.
With a teaching career spanning over three decades at Goldsmiths College, as well as posts at the Central School of Art, Byam Shaw, and many others, Jane has guided generations of artists in unlocking the expressive and practical potential of colour. For the past twenty years, she has also led intensive workshops from her London studio, helping both students and professionals transform the way they see and use colour.
This event is a rare chance to learn directly from Jane’s wealth of experience. Expect both inspiration and interaction: you will be invited to explore colour perception through a simple but powerful visual exercise. Please have a piece of white paper handy as you will be invited to focus on a specific colour on the screen and then look at a white sheet of paper to see the sensitive contrast.
Jane first gave this lecture at the National Gallery in 2014 and has since presented it at City & Guilds and several other venues. She has also served as a judge at the Law Society Art Group’s annual exhibition.
